Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), today, Thursday, December 17, 2020, have massed up at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission to demonstrate against the election results that were declared by Jean Mensa, the EC Chair, on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Jean Mensa, who is also the Returning Officer of the 2020 presidential election, declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as president-elect.
According to her, Nana Akufo-Addo obtained 6,730,413 votes representing 51.59% while John Dramani Mahama polled 6,214,889 which represents 47.36% of the total ballots cast.
The protest follows the rejection of the outcome of the December 7 polls by the executives of the NDC and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
There have been other demonstrations in other parts of the country too, as the supporters of the Party see it as a way of expressing their displeasure of the 2020 election verdict.
Videos shared on social media show the police trying to disperse the crowd.
