UENR Engineering Student Wins Best Youth Roads And Highways Minister

A level 200 student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani has emerged as Best Roads and Highways Minister at the just ended Ghana’s Youth President under the Youth Leadership Parliament.

The award, which is known as Millennium Youth Impact Awards was presented to him at the University of Professional Studies, Accra together with other nine youth Ministers and public figures who have had a reputation of youth development in their respective offices like late former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) popularly known as “Sir John” who was honoured with a posthumous lifetime achievement award.

Running on the ticket of the Republic Cabinet, he presented a detailed manifesto titled “A better road: route to sustainable development”, that seeks to address the underdevelopment characterising Ghana’s roads, which he described as “the arteries through which the economy pulses.”

Swanzy-Baffoe’s campaign trail saw a number of courtesy calls. Prominent among them was to Hon. Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah (Western Regional Minister and MP for Takoradi), Hon. Joseph Cudjoe (Deputy Energy Minister and MP for Effia) and Rt. Hon. John Davis (Presiding Member, Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly). He also embarked on community engagements especially in some rural areas within the Western Region of Ghana to interact with young people to understand their plights.

The 20-year-old civil engineering Student who hails from Benso – Wassa Fiase in the Western Region of Ghana seeks to present alternative government policies and advocate on behalf on the Ghanaian Youth to realise a sustainability integration, safety and responsiveness in the area of roads and highways.

Youth Leadership Parliament is a private NGO initiative registered under the Companies Act of Ghana as Youth Leadership Parliament Foundation Ltd.

Launched on the 30th of March 2016, as project in response to calls by African Heads of States to create opportunities for more young people to actively engage and participate in the discussions that leads to decision making on policy that affect the future of young people.

Therefore Youth Leadership Parliament was created as a platform-bridge between government and the youth of Ghana.
