When you decide to put your hair in protective styling, it doesn’t mean you’re off the hook when it comes to taking care of your hair. You still have to make sure your scalp is clean and here’s how that is done.
1. Pre-treating your hair
Before you go get the protective style, you need to make sure your hair is in good condition. You should do an oil treatment, deep condition treatment and any other one you want just so the hair is strong enough for the protective style.
2. Apply a generous amount of shampoo on your scalp
Concentrate on the partings made by your hairstylist. Massage your scalp and then the part of the braids near the scalp. Wash your hair and braids from scalp to end, with the movement going in a vertical angle—this will prevent frizziness at the roots and braids.
3. Use oils
Apply your hair oils to your scalp and massage it into your scalp to moisturize it.
4. Make sure the hair is totally dry
Before you wrap it into a bun or any other hairstyle make sure the hair is totally dry. You can sit in a hooded dryer or let the hair air dry.
5. In between washes, moisturize the scalp with a light oil product.
Use a moisturizer or oil on the scalp to keep it moisturized.
