‘Dune’ Producer To Sue Warner Bros. Over HBO Max Premiere Decision

Warner Bros.

Less than a week ago, Warner Bros. announced that its entire 2021 roster of films — which spans across 17 titles — will premiere on HBO Max at the same time as theatrical releases, including massive blockbusters like The Matrix 4 and Dune. In light of this decision, Dune‘s co-financier Legendary Entertainment is now looking to take legal action against Warner Bros.

According to Variety, a source close to the production company has expressed concern over the announcement and is looking to first negotiate a better deal, failure of which may lead to legal action being taken. Legendary has collaborated with Warner Bros. on many occasions, including popular franchises such as Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, The Hangover trilogy, and the Godzilla franchise. As for Dune itself, Legendary had financed a significant portion of the film’s $175 million USD budget.

Both companies have declined to comment at this stage, so stay tuned as the story develops.
