The Third Round For The Two Presidents

President Akufo-Addo and former President Mahama

They had their first encounter in the 2012 elections.

As first time Presidential candidate who was also the incumbent due to the passing of his boss, Prof John Evans Atta Mills, former President John Mahama was going toe-to-toe with President Akufo-Addo, who had been in the ring before.

Bolstered by sympathy vote and the seeming Ghanaian soft contract of giving every political party an 8-year term, President Mahama won that fight.

However, that also resulted in a 6-months unsuccessful election petition by the then candidate Akufo-Addo to overturn the results.

Now serving his own first term and the opposition NPP bringing back candidate Akufo-Addo to fight again, it set up the two men for their second encounter in the 2016 elections.

This time, candidate Akufo-Addo was brutal and John Mahama’s track record and even his incumbency could not save him from what was a huge defeat.

This made candidate Akufo-Addo the winner of their second encounter making him the current president.

For their third round, President Akufo-Addo is the incumbent – his first-ever election as the President, and former President Mahama is the opposition – his first-ever election as the opposition leader.

These two men are heading into this election in unchartered territories for both of them, however, one of these two will become President-elect again ahead of a Presidential inauguration scheduled for January 7, 2021

Who wins this for their third time going toe to toe?
