The Golden Movie Awards has been rescheduled from 5th December to the 19th December, according to the Governing Board and Grand Jury of the Golden Movie Awards Africa. This is due to the “upcoming general elections, which the scheme did not anticipate to be as intensive and sensitive as we are currently witnessing.”
An Ambassador for the Award scheme, Nadia Buari, took to her Instagram page to announce the change in date.
Below reads the full statement;
The Governing Board and Grand Jury of the Golden Movie Awards Africa would like to inform the general public that due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the scheme, this year’s edition of the event, which was scheduled for 5th December, 2020 has been rescheduled for 19th December, 2020.
This has become necessary based on the upcoming general elections, which the scheme did not anticipate to be as intensive and sensitive as we are currently witnessing.
Further, the scheme intends to celebrate all nominees and honorees in an extra special way this year for defying all the challenges posed by COVID-19 to put Africa on the world map through film. In view of this, the scheme is satisfied that it will be more expedient to do so in an atmosphere that is devoid of the anxiety and agitation that comes with elections.
This decision notwithstanding, all GMAA PASSPORTS bearing the old date still hold valid and will be accepted and the guests granted entry to the venue on the 19th of December. The scheme would also like to inform all our sponsors, donors and media partners that all plans remain unchanged.
Golden Movies Awards is an annual award that celebrates outstanding achievement in African television and film. The inaugural edition was held on 27 June 2015 at the State Banquet Hall, Ghana. In May 2016, Nadia Buari was unveiled as an ambassador for the award.
