2020 has been unbearable for most people but if there’s one blessing that came out of this miserable miserable year, it’s the fact that most of us discovered the Asakaa sound from Kumasi.
This Asakaa genre of music has been popular in Kumasi for the longest time but we can all admit that this year, it went beyond and straight up set the pace to conquer the world.
If you heard Akatafuor by Kawabanga, and later Yaw Tog’s Sore and fell in love with all the two, these recently released songs and videos will remind you why we think they are the best thing to happen to the GH music industry.
Condemn – Jay Bahd ft Cityboy, O’Kenneth, Reggie & Kwaku DMC
If you need a reminder, Jay Bahd is the artiste with the hoarse voice that’s so reminiscent of Pop Smoke and the way this song starts is everything for me!
Ekorso – Kofi Jamar ft Yaw Tog & Ypee
There’s crack in the hook and I’m not even exaggerating. Kofi Jamar who’s featured several big names in the industry from GH to Naija, this time, went Asakaa mode and featured Ypee and Yaw Tog on this heavy hotting Kumasi drill song.
Africa – Yaw Tog
Our young King, after getting a million views on his Sore song just dropped Africa. A conscious song about the reality of being in Africa: the struggle, the rot in political leaders that’s causing lives to be lost without these leaders giving a hoot. The lyric video features scenes from different parts of Africa including Nigeria’s End SARS movement.
M.O.B – Reggie, O’Kenneth & Skyface SDW
This is one of my favourite songs from the Asakaa boys, Reggie and O’Kenneth. If you listened to the Straight Outta Kumerica project from the two artistes, you’d be familiar with this song. All the juice is in the beat drop.
