Kevin-Prince Boateng has paid tribute to Senegalese football legend Papa Bouba Diop who died aged 42 after a long illness.

“Rest in heaven PAPA sad day for me… I won’t forget you brother, teammate and very tough opponent,” Boateng tweeted.

Kevin-Prince Boateng and Diop were teammates at Portsmouth during the 2009/2010 English Premier League season and also played against him during his stint at Tottenham.

Diop was part of the Senegalese team that stunned defending champions, France, in the opening match of the 2002 World Cup. He scored the only goal of the game to secure one of the biggest shocks in the history of the competition.
