Martin Amidu: Ghanaians React To His Resignation As Special Prosecutor

Martin Amidu resigned from his position as Special Prosecutor on Monday, November 16, 2020.

In a letter addressed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Martin Amidu said his decision is to “enable Your Excellency to take steps to appoint a replacement to that position as required by law.”

Mr Amidu suggested that President Akufo-Addo has not been able to ensure his independence and freedom of action.

Citing an example of one of the triggers for his resignation, the former Attorney General said he has had a “traumatic experience” between October 20, 2020, and November 2, 2020, after releasing his corruption risk assessment on Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions.

Martin Amidu’s resignation as Special Prosecutor has generated a lot of reactions from Ghanaians on social media.

According to some Ghanaians, Martin Amidu’s inability to work effectively as a Special Prosecutor is an indication that Ghana will never be able to win the fight against corruption.
