In Ghana, there are some big exams that are supposed to determine how your whole life turns out. The BECE and the WASSCE examinations. For any student that is just a whole lot of pressure. And of course, we can’t all be excellent students and turn into the Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers that Ghanaian parents want.

So, have you checked your WASSCE results recently? Did things not go as well as you had hoped that they would? Well, I’m here to tell you that you aren’t the first person to feel this way, and you’re actually going to be okay. Here are some of the reasons why things aren’t as bad as you think that they are.

One thing that happens when your grades aren’t as good as you expect them to be is that you have to consider all options when it comes to schools. Before we write the WASSCE, we all have ideas about where we want to go. We make plans with our friends. And we start talking about all the things that we’re going to do once we’re in the university.

Here’s something people don’t really tell you. Just because you have been friends for a while, and you’re in the same university does’t guarantee a lasting friendship. In fact, usually, there is so much change that happens to people when they get to the university. It’s a time of self-discovery and experience. Friends find different interests, discover different parts of themselves and drift apart. University is also a place where you are going to meet a lot of different new people and form some new connections. And that fact stands no matter the school where you find yourself.

You’re Worried About What Kind Of Jobs You’re Going To Get

One very real fear that people have is that they won’t get their dream job because of their grades. In the case of highly specialized fields like Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy and Law among others, your grades determine whether you get started on the right path or not. However, if you’re set on one of those career paths, rewriting your papers for better grades is not out of the question. The hardest part of that is the fact that we’re all affected by what people think of us. But believe, time really flies. People’s opinions won’t matter much when you have a job that you really love and know that you worked for.

Finally, You May Be Worried That You Aren’t “Smart” Enough

That’s the thing. There are different types of intelligence. Just because you aren’t good at this kind of testing doesn’t mean that there aren’t things that you would be more suited to doing. You might find that you struggle academically, only to come out of school and realize that you’re quite good at your job which will tend to more practical. In addition to that, something that emphasis isn’t place enough on school is social skills. Social skills tend to be highly valued on the job market.

So, you didn’t get the grades that you thought you would on the WASSCE. Well, you’re just getting started.
