South Africa is one of the top countries to visit in Africa. They can satisfy every type of traveler from those that are looking for adventure, hiking, wildlife, history or just relaxation.
If it’s history one is looking for, you can visit the Robben Island. Robben Island is a haunting reminder of the horrors of apartheid. Nelson Mandela spent 18 years imprisoned in a tiny cell there along with other political dissidents and social misfits. Perhaps the best part about this experience is that ex-prisoners are usually the guides, sharing pitiful first-hand accounts of the atrocities they endured.
For wildlife, you can visit the Addo Elephant National Park. With humble beginnings as a small elephant sanctuary established to protect just 11 reddish-colored Addo elephants in the 1930s, Addo Elephant National Park is now one of South Africa’s largest national parks – and possibly one of the best for spotting these gentle giants. As the park has swelled and expanded over the years, it now consists of five different sections, each offering its own unique characteristics.
