The world is joining Americans as they anxiously wait for the final results from the Presidential Elections they held yesterday on November 3.
It was billed as the fight for the soul of the country and almost 24 hours after polls closed, there is no clear indication who has been entrusted with that soul.
Joe Biden is fighting to win the White House, while Donald Trump is also fighting to keep what he already has.
Though November 3 is billed as Election Day in America, even if the results are known as a winner declared, the actually election for President of the United States occurs on December 14.
You might have heard that both candidates are hoping to obtain the crucial 270 electoral votes.
Yes, more than 100 million Americans voted yesterday, however only 538 Americans will actually vote to choose the American president.
Yesterday’s election is for the people to assign electoral votes to candidates based on who wins each state. That is the reason why, though Biden is leading in the popular votes, he still needs 270 electoral votes to claim winner of the elections.
After the electoral college votes are assigned, electors from the different states meet on December 14 to actually vote to elect the President and Vice President of the United States of America.
If the President and the Vice President does not get the required 270 votes, then the US House of Representatives will chose the President and the US Senate will also choose the Vice President.
If this happens, that election will be conducted on January 6.
This means that the US will certainly ensure that there is a newly elected president with a mandate for the next four years on January 20, Inauguration Day.
