A deal breaker is a factor to consider when deciding whether to follow through with something or not. It’s that little something that makes you say “I’m done!” even when you really love someone or you’ve been together forever.

We spoke to 10 Ghanaian women who told us about some of their deal breakers. Guys, please start taking notes.

1. Rita, 23 years

“I think my major deal-breaker is a man having body odour. I just can’t stand it but I think I would know from the start so I won’t even allow it get to the relationship part”

2. Vee, 24 years

“I think my ultimate deal breakers are you not communicating and not giving me attention. Maintain the same energy you started the relationship with. If you started with giving me your undivided attention, why have you stopped?”

3. Edem, 29 years

“If you speak bad English, it’s a no from me. If you have poor fashion/dressing skills, it’s a no from me. If you like to keep long fingernails, it’s a no from me.”

4. Rebecca, 22 years

“Absolutely no smoking! Any type of smoking, even if it’s “just shisha”. I will leave.”

5. Jenny, 25 years

“If you don’t like communicating or you don’t know how to communicate, I don’t think our relationship will work. And oh! Trust. If you don’t trust me, there’s no need to be in the relationship.”

6. Yaa, 26 years

“Smoking, drinking, if you’re violent and if you’re stingy. Those are my ultimate deal-breakers.”

7. Julia, 25 years

“Someone who isn’t actively trying to grow in his walk with Christ.”

8. Angie, 26 years

“I think my ultimate deal breaker would be abuse in all its forms. Once that happens, it’s over for me”

9. Justine, 25 years

“I would say disrespecting me in front of your friends and cheating on me.”

10. Eyram, 28 years

“I would say lack of attention. Once that happens I assume you don’t want me anymore.”
