What’s New On Netflix: Blood Of Zeus—It’s Terrible But Also Completely Awesome

Yesterday, Netflix released a new title, Blood of Zeus. If you are a fan of the ancient animated Hercules movie made by Disney, this is probably a title that you’re going to want to add to your list. And as you can tell from this article’s headline, you are going to have very strong opinions about this new series.

If there’s one thing that you should know about Zeus by now, it’s that he’s going to be “spreading his seed” in places where he really shouldn’t be spreading his seed. That’s a euphemism for sex by the way, if it wasn’t clear enough.

Anyway, the show follows the story of Heron, one of Zeus’ illegitimate children with a mortal woman. This of course, infuriates Zeus’ wife the goddess Hera. If the expression Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned was a show, this would be it.

Why The Show Is Terrible

We say that the show is terrible because of the premise. Zeus falls in love with a human woman, transforms into her husband and sleeps with her. First of all, that’s a consent foul right there. And then to top things of, the entire show is so tragic because Zeus is not only a terrible husband, but also a terrible father. All in all, he’s a pretty shitty person.

Why The Show Is Completely Awesome

Like every other story about the gods of Olympus and demigod heroes, there is some incredible character work. And the way that the production team, Powerhouse Animation Studios, manages to capture the feats of the gods and the fight sequences—is all just animation magic.

It’s a really beautifully put together animated series. And similar to other Netlix anime series, it has elements of Japanes anime combined with characters are more Western/European in appearance. And visually, everything just works.

Since the show only dropped yesterday (27th October, 2020), there is no word on a second season. Netflix usually waits 4 to 6 weeks to see how a new title is doing. It’s only then that a second season is announced. You can watch the trailer for Blood Of Zeus below.

So, if you’re looking for something to binge, I definitely recommend Blood of Zeus.

Kuulpeeps Rating: 7/10.
Solid Animation. Good Character Work. Shitty Zeus.

  1. What I find absolutely rubbish about it is that they used practically the same conception story as Hercules. Queen sleeps with her husband, turns out it’s Zeus, sleeps with husband again, gives birth to two kids and they have different fathers
