President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the Akyem Batabi church building collapse in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region.
“On behalf of Government and the people of Ghana, I send my deepest condolences to the families of the 15 persons who lost their lives tragically in the church building that collapsed at Akim Batabi near Oda. I wish the 8 injured persons a speedy recovery,” the President stated.
The three-storey building which served as premises for the Church of Prosperity collapsed on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, causing the death and injury of people who were in it.
So far, 17 person have been confirmed dead, and 8 persons have been rescued and sent to the Oda Government Hospital for treatment.
Local authorities are still engaged in a rescue effort in hope of finding more survivors.
