Ajax has revealed that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a meniscus injury in his right knee after coming off the pitch in Ajax’s Champions League clash with Liverpool on Wednesday night at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Kudus got injured six minutes into his Champions League debut, and according to Ajax, the injury could keep the 20-year-old sidelined for several months.
“Mohammed Kudus was injured on Wednesday evening in the UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool. Research has shown that there is an injury to his meniscus in his right knee that requires surgery. It is expected that he will no longer be available for Ajax before the winter break,” the club disclosed on its website.
An early pressure applied by Kudus on Fabinho led to a knee to knee collision which resulted in the midfielder’s injury. He couldn’t continue the game and was replaced by Quincy Promes.
Kudus joined Ajax from FC Nordsjælland on July 16, 2020, on a five-year deal for a reported fee of €9 million, and has so far made 4 appearances, scoring 1 goal, providing 3 assists and winning 2 Man of the Match awards.
