Should We Pull A ‘Sankofa’ For Former President Mahama Come December 7?

Former president John Mahama is back on the campaign trail.

After losing the 2016 Presidential Election to President Akufo-Addo, the former President who was eligible for one more term in office went back to the drawing board.

He asked his party to trust him again as their flag bearer for the 2020 General Election. His party believed in him and chose him as their flagbearer to face off with President Akufo-Addo again.

To gain the trust of Ghanaians, former President Mahama and his team reached out to Ghanaians to identify their needs that must be addressed in the next term of the presidential office.

This is what brought about the People’s Manifesto.

Some of the key youth-led promises in the People’s Manifesto include the promise to absorb 50% of university fees for the 2020/2021 academic year which will now start in January 2021 due to COVID-19.

He also promised to distribute laptops to university students to facilitate online lessons.

The former president also wants to give law faculties in the country the accreditation to run law courses run by the Ghana School of Law – this will decentralize legal education and break the monopoly of “Makola” law school.

He also has a similar a promise of abolishing the guarantor system of the student loan fund.

Then there is the creation of 250,000 jobs a year promise and provide government support to the development of the creative arts industry.

Will it be a sankofa or nah..
