Kanye West has become the latest American celebrity to speak against police brutality in Nigeria.
There have been protests in Nigeria over the abuse of citizens by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigerian Police Force.
Nigerians also created a number of hashtags to aid in creating awareness of the issue through social media, and this quickly caught the attention of the international community.
The likes of Diddy, Drake, Big Sean, Trey Songz, John Boyega and Estelle have added their voice to call to end SARS in Nigeria.
“I stand with my Nigerian brothers and sisters to end police brutality, the government must answer to the peoples cries #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria,” Kanye West tweeted.
The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday, October 11, 2020, announced that SARS has been dissolved, but Nigerians are demanding more to be done about the issue and their demands were justified after some of them were attacked and shot dead during a peaceful protest on Monday.
