#EndSARS protests in Nigeria

Nigerians and Ghanaians on social media are questioning why the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU) have turned a blind eye and are quiet over the cases of police brutality in Nigeria.

Nigerians have been protesting against police brutality for about a week now and in the process, some citizens of the West African country have been killed.

Nigerians are demanding more to be done by the government after the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigerian Police Force was dissolved on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

There have been more killings and abuse of Nigerians by the police even after SARS was dissolved and this has got many worried.

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has been criticized by some top stars like Wizkid and Trey Songz for not acting well on the issue affecting his people.

With the Headquarters of the ECOWAS in Nigeria, some Ghanaians and Nigerians have also questioned why the organisation has not issued any statement on police brutality in Nigeria yet.

A lot of them have also called out ECOWAS Chairman, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Twitter to take actions on the issue.

The Africa Union has also been criticised for not addressing a serious issue affecting citizens of one of its member states.

We hope African leaders listen to the call of the people that they govern and immediately take actions to salvage the situation in Nigeria.
