Ghana Beat Qatar As CK Akonnor Secures First Win As Head Coach

Ghana recovered from a 3-0 loss to Mali on Friday to thump Qatar in a second friendly game on Monday, October 12, 2020.

The Black Stars comfortably beat Qatar 5-1 at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey to hand CK Akonnor his first win as head coach of the Black Stars.

Tarique Fosu opened the scoring for Ghana in the 22nd minute by tapping in a pass from Jordan Ayew. The Black Stars dominated that game after the first goal, but Qatar equalised a minute before halftime.

The Black Stars came from the break fully focused, and 18 minutes into the second half, Captain Andre Ayew scored Ghana’s second goal. Samuel Owusu added the third goal in the 65 minute.

Andre Ayew later in the 83rd minute, got a brace by heading in Ghana’s fourth, before substitute Caleb Ekuban wrapped up the game with the fifth goal in 87th minute.

The Black Stars will face Sudan in November for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
