#EndSARS protests in Nigeria

Protests by Nigerians demanding for their government to end the operations of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigerian Police, that has gained the attention of the international community especially.

The protests became necessary after some members of SARS were accused of brutality.

Nigerian celebrities have actively participated in these protests, and now their colleagues in the West have also joined them to kick against police brutality in the West African country.

The likes of Grammy Award-winning singer Estelle Fanta Swaray, American rappers Big Sean, Chance The Rapper and Lil Baby have spoken against the abuse of Nigerians by SARS.

British-Nigerian actor John Boyega has also added his voice to the protest, while encouraging others to also join the protest to end SARS.

“The youth in Nigeria deserve good leadership and guidance. This situation is tied to many other issues. Please lend your attention to this pressing problem!” he wrote on Twitter.

“We can’t simply enjoy Banana island every December without noticing the concrete wall placed between Nigerians and their potential. The limitations become unbearable for them and this needs serious attention,” he added.

Trey Songz also stated in a tweet that: “Police brutality here in America often is an abuse of power-driven by race. To be brutalized, extorted and murdered by your own people is unimaginable. Prayers up and I’m researching ways I can help.”
