Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.
The midfielder’s £45 million release from Atletico Madrid was triggered by Arsenal, paving way for him to join the Gunners.
The 27-year-old has been a long time target of Arsenal, as the club believes he could help improve their squad.
Partey had been linked to some of Europe’s elite clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG. However, Arsenal was the likely destination for him.
The midfielder had been with Atletico Madrid since 2012, making 188 appearances, in which time he won both the Europa League and Super Cup in 2018, and was a Champions League runner-up in 2016.
Last season, Partey made 46 appearances for Atletico, playing a key role in their third-placed finish in La Liga and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Thomas will wear the No. 18 shirt and will join up with his new team-mates next week after he returns from international duty with Ghana.
