As the December 7 election day is approaching, the wheels are moving fast to ensure that the election comes off successfully.

Before printing the ballots, the Electoral Commission has opened nominations for candidates who would like to stand for election for presidential office and parliamentary positions.

In 2016, the then opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo was the first presidential aspirant to file his nomination forms with the then EC, Charlotte Osei.

He reportedly told her that since he was the first to file his nomination “by God’s grace I will be the first person you’ll declare [winner].”

Well, that came to pass as he was declared the winner of the December 7, 2016 elections.

Fast forward four years on, now President Akufo-Addo is buying into the superstition again.

This morning, President Akufo-Addo filed his nomination for re-election at the offices of the Electoral Commission.

This made him the first presidential candidate to do so.

“Four years later, and history is repeating itself. He is, again, going to be the first to file his nominations at the EC. God-willing, with the generosity of the Ghanaian people, and backed solid track record of performance in office, he will, again, be declared winner of the 2020 elections,” the President’s Communication Director, Eugene Arhin posted on Facebook.

Time will tell if this superstition will hold.
