The United States of America is supposed to be the bastian of democracy.

The shining city on the hill with a government that its people are proud of.

However, judging by how divisive this year’s American election has become and the kind of near autocratic nature of Donald Trump’s politics, the election is reminiscent of the kind of elections successive American governments have condemned in the past in other countries, especially those in Africa.

As a result, a satirical statement has been released which is in the same tone an American government would has said about an African election where the President is behaving the way Donald Trump is behaving now.

“The African Union (AU) remains concerned about the worrying political developments in the United Staes of America,” the unofficial AU statement reads.

“It is in this context that the AU has decided to intervene in this matter, to ensure that there is peace and order during and after the forthcoming elections; and to avoid the possibility of a flood of refugees into neighboring Canada and Mexico,” it added.

The entire statement, which can be seen below, is a spoof mocking the American elections and their supposed high moral grounds about democracy.

The unofficial AU statement.

The Americans are less than a month away from their election.

The statement was drafted by Prof Babatunde Fagbayibo who is a professor of law at the University of South Africa.
