Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has vowed, “to lend her voice” to the vulnerable including women after she took a United Nations ambassadorial role.

She was named Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

In her address, she promised to use her role to help those who have been massively affected by COVID-19.

“COVID-19 has widened the gap between the rich and the poor,” she said a video message.

“It is important now more than ever to not let the billions of the world’s poorest population, the most vulnerable people fall in the cracks of society.”

“Women are among the 4 billion people who are trying to survive Covid-19 without any form of social protection.”

“This is why I am super proud to join the UNDP,” she added.

She further indicated that she was ready to offer “innovative solutions” to the various issues.
