The annual celebration of players and coaches by UEFA is up again and the shortlist for player of the year and coach of the year was revealed by UEFA.

The interesting part about this year’s player of the year shortlist is, for the first time since 2010 neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Messi made the shortlist and this has added a bit more evidence to the fact that one of the greatest eras in world football is slowly fading out, and as sad as that sounds, it’s a story for another day.

Going back to the list, the three players picked for this year’s award for the best player in Europe are; Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City, Robert Lewandoski and Manuel Neuer both from the treble-winning Bayern Munich FC.

The shortlist for the coaches also has the likes of Jurgen Klopp, head coach of Liverpool, Hansi Flick of Bayern Munich and  Julian Nagelsmann coach of Red Bull Leipzig.

All three coaches are German and this will be the first time ever this is happening.

The winners will be announced on the 1st of October at the 2020/2021 UEFA champions league group stage draw ceremony in Switzerland.
