Moisturizing Mistakes To Stop Making If You Have Dry Skin

A hydrated skin is a happy skin and so moisturizing is not a step in your skincare routine you can skip. If you have dry skin, there’s a way to moisturize your skin so your skin doesn’t look flaky anymore.

Here are moisturizing mistakes to stop if you have dry skin.

1. Over cleansing your skin

Any time that your skin feels really tight and dry and squeaky clean after cleansing, it probably means that you’re killing off some of your good micro bacteria on your face.

2. Totally drying your face before applying your moisturizer

Your skin has the most moisture when it’s wet, and moisturizers work best when the skin is already hydrated. After you shower, water evaporates off your skin, which can leave it feeling more dry. Post shower or a bath, pat your skin dry and immediately reach for a body lotion of your choice.

3. Using the Wrong Moisturizer for Your Skin Type

If you have dry skin and are using a moisturizer that is formulated for oily or blemish-prone skin, chances are your skin won’t respond the way you’d like it to. Dry skin requires a much different product than oily skin, oily skin requires a much different product than sensitive skin — and so on. When you have dry skin, look for a moisturizer that can provide your skin with a burst of hydration, nourishment and comfort upon application.

4. Not Exfoliating

You need to exfoliate at least once a week. Chemical exfoliators formulated with acids or enzymes are the best option. If you skip out on exfoliating, it can cause dead skin cells to build up on the surface of your skin and make it practically impossible for your lotions and moisturizers to do their jobs.

5. Confusing Dehydrated Skin for Dry Skin

Although they sound similar, dry skin and dehydrated skin are actually two different things: Dry skin lacks oil and dehydrated skin lacks water. Dehydrated skin can be the result of not drinking enough water or liquids, as well as using irritating or drying products that can strip the skin of its moisture.

We hope these tips put things in focus for you.
