Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes on a five-year deal for a reported fee of £22 million.
He becomes the second goalkeeper to make the move from Rennes to Chelsea, after club legend Petr Cech signed for the Blues in 2004.
The Senegalese international, according to the club, will compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero for a starting spot between the posts in the season ahead.
The 28-year-old was amazing for Rennes last season, keeping 9 clean sheets in 24 Ligue 1 matches.
“I am so excited to be joining Chelsea. It’s a dream for me to be a part of this exciting squad and to work with Frank Lampard and all of his coaching staff. I look forward to meeting my team-mates and can’t wait to get started,” Mendy said after signing for the Blues.
