The December 2020 election is fast approaching and the two main political parties in Ghana – New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) – are putting in the effort to sell their campaign messages to Ghanaians ahead of the elections.
They have both launched their manifestos ahead of the elections, and because they cannot hold large rallies and campaign tours due to COVID-19, they have adopted a ‘door-to-door’ campaign approach.
Another medium which they are using to propagate their manifesto promises is social media.
The political parties, every now and again, create special hashtags to push their political agendas.
The NPP are using this hashtag to outline what President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government have done to improve the economy of Ghana from how they met it after they took over from the John Mahama-led NDC government.
They also provided figures and graphs to support their statements.
Others also quoted speeches made by vice-president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on how the NPP government have improved Ghana’s economy in four years.
While the NPP were giving reasons why Ghanaians need to vote for them again, the NDC were also pushing their own agenda on Twitter.
The used this hashtag to indicate the track record of ex-President John Dramani Mahama, and why they trust him to be the best leader for Ghana.
They also indicated that they trust Mr Mahama to deliver all the promises the NDC made in ‘The People’s Manifesto’.
