Tariq Lamptey had an amazing game last night as Brighton & Hove Albion welcomed Chelsea to The Amex for their opening game of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
Born to Ghanaian parents living in the UK, Lamptey is a product of the Chelsea youth system. He joined the club’s academy at age 8.
He moved from Chelsea to Brighton for an undisclosed fee in January 2020, despite having been offered a new contract by the Blues.
Lamptey made his debut for Brighton in a 0-0 Premier League draw with Leicester City on June 23, 2020.
In his debut game for the Seagulls, 19-year-old Lamptey became the first teenager to feature in the Premier League for two separate teams in the same season since Kane came back in the 2012-13 season.
Fast forward to a new Premier League season, Graham Potter picked Lamptey to start as a right wing-back against the club that nurtured him.
Lamptey put up an outstanding performance that won the hearts of football fans who watched the game.
He provided an assist that resulted in Brighton’s only goal of the game.
Here’s a highlight of Lamptey’s performance against Chelsea:
Chelsea went on to win the game 3-1, but Lamptey’s performance could not go unnoticed. Football fans, especially Ghanaians, took to Twitter to react to the performance of the youngster.
