The family of Barbara Tommey have asked the media and public to respect their privacy as they grief and honour the memory of their daughter and sister.

The family, in a statement, indicated that they “are extremely traumatised by the tragic loss” of Barbara.

Barbara, 27, was shot to death by his husband Sylvester Ofori, 35, on September 8, 2020.

Sylvester is reported to have followed Barbara to her place of work and shot her in front of the building.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras, which led to the subsequent identification and arrest of Sylvester by the Orlando police, who has been charged with first-degree murder with a firearm.

“These past days have been extremely difficult for our family, both in the U.S and Ghana. We appreciate the prayers and thoughts of all grieving with us,” Barbara’s family stated.

They also asked the media and public to desist from sharing videos and engaging in things that will interfere with ongoing investigations by the Orlando Police Department.

“Investigations are on-going by the Orlando Police Department, and we discourage anything that would interfere with this process; including the sharing of footages, media speculations and interviews being granted by persons to explain events leading murder.”

The family also made it clear that they have not designated any spokesperson or individual in any capacity to represent them in the media.
