Today is Beyoncé’s birthday, and the world is celebrating the ‘Queen’ of music.

As she turns 39, we would like to take you through the evolution of Queen Bey, with the help of a Twitter thread created by Ray, a big Beyoncé fan.

Beyoncé was born and raised in Houston, Texas.

Her singing talent was reportedly discovered when her dance instructor Darlette Johnson began humming a song and she finished it, able to hit the high-pitched notes.

She won her first talent show at the age of 7, and that propelled her interest in music and performing.

Beyoncé later teamed up with her best friend Kelly Rowland and four other girls – LaTavia, Nina, Nikki and Ashley to form the group, Girls Tyme. They participated in the “Star Search” talent show, which they failed to win.

The group’s failure to win the talent show, forced Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles, to quit his job to manage them full time.

In 1995, the line-up for the group was reduced to four – Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Robertson and LaToya Luckett.

The group later adopted the name Destiny’s Child, which was reportedly suggested by Beyoncé’s mom Tina Knowles.

The group signed was signed by Columbia Records after their deal with Elektra Records ended. They released their debut album, Destiny’s Child, in 1998, which established the group as a viable act in the music industry, with moderate sales and winning the group three Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards for Best R&B/Soul Album of the Year, Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist, and Best R&B/Soul Single for No, No, No.

They recorded hits like Bootylicious and Independent Women, which appeared on the soundtrack to the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels.

At age 22, Beyoncé decided to “take a break” from Destiny’s Child.

In 2003 she released her first solo album, Dangerously In Love, which had hits like Me, Myself, and I and Crazy In Love.
