Meet The Director Behind VGMA’s Best Video Of The Year- Gene Adu

Gene Adu born Eugene Adu Antwi is a Ghanaian Filmmaker and Writer.

Gene Adu had his senior high school education at Achimota School. He furthered his education at Valley View University where he studied Banking.

Gene Adu loved films while growing up. After his university education and working as a banker for a while, he felt that he was at the wrong place and needed to pursue his dream of filmmaking. After having that conviction, he got some friends together and they shot their first short film, titled Guilty. He later joined forces with Sika Osei to set up The Creative Inc.


Gene Adu Directed Cina Soul’s Killi Mi which won the Best Video of The Year at the 21st Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2020.

The music video of Cina Soul’s song Ojorley, which he directed had six nominations at the 2019 MTN 4Syte Video Music Awards of which won the Best Photography Award.

He also won awards for his short film, 3 Nights Ago.

3 Nights Ago awards: Official Selection Afro Film Festival “Ananse” (2016), Official Selection Indiewise Free Virtual Festival (2016), Official Selection Slum Film Festival (2016), 2nd Runner Up Francophone Film Festival (2016).
