In Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman’s character King T’Challa is protected by a group of all female soldiers known as the Dora Milaje.
Danai Gurira’s character Okay was the General of this elite group of female fighters.
That meant she was often sharing screen with Chadwick as he goes about the business of being the King of Wakanda.
That brought them close and they became friends or a brother and sister as Danai decribes it.
That explains why Danai struggled to put words together to honor her brother who passed away from colon cancer.
“Struggling for words. Nothing feels adequate. I always marveled at how special Chadwick was,” she wrote in her tribute.
“My entire job as Okay was to respect and protect a king. Honor his leadership. Chadwick made that job profoundly easy,” she added.
“I can’t even wrap my mind around this loss. A loss resonating in my own heart as well as around the globe,” Danai adds.
Rest in power, King.
