This is definitely the most difficult article I’ve had to put together in a while. Trying to choose my Top 5 songs was tough because Adekunle Gold’s album is a 10/10.
Adekunle Gold has officially shed the sweet innocent version of himself that sang about fresh love, heartbreak and prayers to take on this exciting persona that’s more bold with his music. It’s a complete upgrade especially since he’s introduced himself as AG Baby as well too.
This album wasn’t from Adekunle Gold. It’s from AG Baby.
The album is a fusion of genres that still maintain that traditional style of music we associate with him.
I’m probably going to regret these choices because each song is just not forgettable but… here goes!
My top 5 from Afropop Vol 1, starting from number 5!
#5 – AG Baby
I thought it’d be my only favourite songs off the album and I thought Simi was the one singing AG Baby on the song. I was wrong both times! The voice was that of Nailah Blackman who was featured on the song.
#4 – Sabina
Sabina reeks of the Adekunle Gold we know. The song’s intro is almost electric and the production with the drums was just too good! Sabina definitely has the best intro on the whole album and it’s easy to see him performing this live with a live band.
#3 – Pretty Girl
Look at Adekunle Gold giving us a dancehall type of tune!!! He featured Patoranking so you know the song is all types of heated!
#2 – Something Different
We can all agree this is a jam right? He released this way before the album and it’s topped charts effortlessly only because it’s a solid tune!!! Original and authentic. Fire ankasa!
#1 – Exclusive
First listen and I was hooked! Adekunle Gold with a new school rnb hiphop twist? If there’s a video for this, it better be a sexy one with pole dancing. The only way!
Special shoutout to Here For Ya because the pop blend with afrobeats was too exciting for me!
