I wasn’t feeling the project once it started and it’s only because (I realized this later) that I was expecting the Fireboy I heard on his debut project, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps. I was expecting the same sound but it wasn’t.

The new album, Apollo spans across different genres.. from pop to RnB to Disco and even a country music vibe… he didn’t hold back at all! True, the album may not be an unskippable 10/10 like his debut album and yes, some songs aren’t so memorable but, it isn’t so bad at all and grows on you.

These are my Top 5 songs off the 17-track Apollo album:

#5 – Favourite Song

Favourite Song takes me back to the disco era. I talk like I’m in my 60s but seeing young artistes bring back an old genre makes me excited. This song in particular makes me feel good and nostalgic. He even sampled the Spanish song, Macarena by Los del Rio

#4 – Dreamer

I think Dreamer is a soothing song. Fireboy’s voice and the simplicity in the whole execution of the song makes it really really beautiful. I love the fact that the beat drops when you least expect it. It’s the kind of song that makes you cry over a love you’ve never experienced and I see the influence of Jon Bellion heavily in the song.

#3 – ELI

ELI was released earlier as one of the singles off the album and for me, this is one of the perfect songs on the album. The tempo, the production… it’s all just pure perfection. Anyone else notice that underlying instrument that sounds like something out of a Japanese/Chinese movie? I enjoyed it all thoroughly!!

#2 – Tattoo

What in the pure RnB is this??!!!! I looooved the song the second it started to play. It’s such a sexy song too…the lyrics, his voice, his VOICE. Too good!! Way too good! It’s odd how I never really paid attention to the song as a single before the album was dropped. For that, I’m sorry to all Fireboy stans!

#1 – Spell

All the juice is in the beginning of this song. Pure flames!!! The production is brilliant, the vocals, on point. I don’t see myself getting tired of this song anytime soon. Wande Coal being a part of this song makes it even better. In my opinion, this is the best song on the album, hands down.

Special shoutout to the production team for this album because they did not disappoint at all!!!!
