The NPP has made a promise to help Ghanaians to cover their rent, especially entry-level young professionals.
In their 2020 manifesto, the NPP promised to setup the National Rent Assistance Scheme to help pay for their rent.
Though it may seem like a good idea, John Dumelo, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Constituency has critiqued the move.
Though John Dumelo has also criticized landlords who demand more than 6 months advance payments, he does not agree with the National Rent Assistance Scheme that the NPP wants to set up.
“The establishment of the National Rent Assistance Scheme is dead on arrival,” he tweeted.
“Why not enforce the rent control act 220 so citizens pay 6 months rent advance instead of 2-3years being charged? Enforce the law and save money, simple!,” he added.
John Dumelo has promised to ensure the enforcement of the Rent Control law if he goes into parliament.
