Social Media To The Rescue: Over £23,000 Raised For Homeless ‘Stormzy Look-Alike’

Akwasi, the Stormzy Look-alike

Social media has come to the rescue of Akwasi, a 29-year-old homeless Ghanaian at Liverpool Street Station in the UK.

A video of Akwasi tagged as ‘Stormzy look-alike’ went viral on Twitter on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

The video generated a lot of reactions, as some people even tweeted distasteful things about him.

Akwasi was bumped into by a guy who identified him as Stormzy. Akwasi, however, indicated that he is not the musician, adding that a lot of people normally call him Stormzy and he doesn’t even like him.

“I’m just out here begging,” Akwasi said in the video.

This touched the heart of Stella, a Twitter user, who posted the video and called on Stormzy to find Akwasi and help him.

She later started a fundraiser on GoFundMe and asked people to donate to support Akwasi.

In less than 24 hours, the target of £20,000 has been surpassed. The total amount raised as at the time of this report was £23,450.

Stella also indicated that benevolent people have also donated clothes, and others are willing to get him accommodation and a job.

She also stated that Stormzy’s manager has reached out to support Akwasi.

Akwasi expressed his appreciation to all you have supported, and are still supporting him.

You can still donate to support Akwasi via his GoFundMe page or provide your details here if you have any other thing to offer him.
