Sometimes, old sayings come off as a bunch of cliches but they actually encompass what life lessons are about.
Something like grabbing the bull by its horns and fortune favors the bold, were developed becuse of human stories.
One of those human stories is the story of how Aminat Sule, a Nigerian who was born in the UK, employed herself as a Personal Assistant to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
She wanted to become the youngest first female Foreign Minister for Nigeria – that dream is still being nurtured.
When her TV show could not be aired because of lack of funds, a friend of hers told her about a conference in the UK in which Obasanjo would be in attendance.
Aminat went early, took up a seat right in front of Obasanjo and made sure they made eye contact through out the conference.
Immediately after the conference was over, she sprung into action.
“Guests and fellow panelists wanted to take pictures and engage with Pres. Obasanjo. I stormed onto the stage and said, excuse me: “No more pictures! Can we get him into a private room, with a glass of water? In 10 minutes he’ll resume to discuss matters and entertain the press,” she said in a Twitter thread.
She managed to whisk Obasanjo away and that was when they had their conversation.
The former president wanted to know who her father was and then he asked her what he could do for her.
“Well I’m your new PA. I’m going to serve you,” she replied and that was her job interview and job offer.
Since then Aminat has been working with the former Nigerian President.
The boldness of it all.
