WASSCE Riots: GES Directs School Authorities To ‘Deboardinize’ Students

Students KNUST SHS protesting

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed school authorities to deboardinize any student established to have been involved in any of the indiscipline acts that have been recorded in some senior high schools.

“…Any student established to have misconducted themselves in any of the indiscipline acts should be deboardinised and allowed to commute from home to write the exams under parental control,” the GES indicated in a statement signed by its Director-General, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.

This directive from GES comes after viral videos on social media showed some students protesting and vandalising school property over strict invigilation.

Senior High School students in the country on Monday, August 3, 2020, began sitting for the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

“Any destruction of school property will be surcharged against the culprits established to be involved. Instances, where criminal acts have been committed, should be reported to the Police for investigations,” the statement added.

The GES also directed school authorities to take actions on all such misconduct and submit reports to the Director-General immediately.
