A Kind of Guise Rounds Out Its Ghana Capsule With Kente Beach Bags

Over the course of this summer, A Kind of Guise has dedicated its Spring/Summer 2020 collection drops to celebrating the heritage and culture of Ghana. After releasing a seasonal lookbook inspired by Kumasi markets, last month the brand dropped a shirting collection that drew influence from the West African republic for its prints.

Now, the label has completed its Ghanian-inspired offering with a more collaborative capsule: a series of three beach bags that celebrate traditional Kente craftsmanship. Proceeds from the sales of the styles will go directly to the Dream Big Ghana Foundation, which organizes projects to support education, sports development, health, and sanitation in the country’s poorest areas.

The weaving of Kente cloth is a tradition dating back centuries. Formerly saved for royalty, it has since become one of Ghana’s most significant exports and is closely connected to the country’s cultural identity.

The bags themselves have been made by Kente workshops in the region, to support the local economy. The colors and patterns of the bags are loaded with significance: the black design symbolizes mutual affection and elegance, the blue represents life and a connection to nature, while the red symbolizes sincerity and appreciation.

The bags will be available to buy for $140(GHS 807.80 ) from this Sunday, August 9, at the brand’s webstore.
