African artistes having features with international artistes keep flowing in and we are not mad at all! We love it right? Collaborations all over the world by different artistes and genres are slowly blurring the strict genre lines and the “music is universal” term is starting to make more and more sense.
We won’t lie, some of these collaborations when announced, have us feeling very skeptical because…who and who again? On a track???
It always sounds impossible until the song drops and….
These are some of the most unexpected collaborations from Ghana and Nigeria, with international artistes.
Shatta Wale and Beyonce
When we found out about Shatta Wale being featured on a Beyonce track, everyone’s reaction was “How?!” First of all, we know the kind of songs Shatta makes and the kind Beyonce makes so how were they going to sound together????
Well, the “Already” dropped and turned out to be a jam! Beyonce really switched up to match Shatta and we currently have one of the biggest jams in Ghana!
Burna Boy and Sam Smith
I was so curious about this sound because Sam Smith doing afrobeats sounds…interesting! I was wondering how they’d pull off a dance tune we can gbese to and…they shocked us all. They gave us a mellow pop song and Burna fit in perfectly!
Davido and Summer Walker
If you are familiar with Summer Walker’s music, you know she’s more contemporary R&B than anything else but, Davido with his usually energetic afrobeats style managed to get her on the hook of his song, D&G and we were not disappointed at all.
Mr Eazi and J.Balvin
First it was the song Como un bebe and then it was Acoiris. JBalvin is a Colombian reggaeton artiste and the first time I heard about a feature, I wondered if Mr Eazi will pull a Drake and sing in Spanish or go for his pidgin style with a few Naija and twi words sprinkled in these. He did the latter and they still sounded so good together. A perfect fit if you ask me.
Clearly, sometimes the most unusual stuff work out well and… we cannot wait for more mind boggling collaborations.
