Muslims all over the world observed the Eid al-Adha celebration yesterday, Friday, July 31, 2020.

Eid al-Adha is the last of the two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier of the two.

It honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God’s command. But, before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, God provided a lamb for the sacrifice instead.

It takes place in the last month of the Muslim lunar calendar with family and friends praying together at mosques before feasting.

African footballers including the Ayew brothers (Andre, Jordan, Rahim), Liverpool’s Salah and Mane, and Manchester City’s Mahrez took to social media to commemorate the festivity.
