Dwp Academy to the World!!!

Dancing has had a huge a impact on the entertainment industry and also with the promotion of songs. Musicians have had dance versions of their songs just to promote the song. A team of young men and women have led the charge to change the narrative surrounding the involvement of the dance in the Ghanaian music industry.

Dance With A Purpose has proved they definitely dance with purpose. The dream to be featured in a big project came true when the DWP Academy was featured in Beyonce’s new Visual Album,”Black Is King“.

Been featured in the Already music video gives the dance group the push it needs to get to the next level.

DWP Academy was started by Quables, Dancegodllyod, and Afrobeast with the aim of training young and upcoming dancers to help them make a career out of dancing and to help prevent them from making the same mistakes in their journey.

Speaking to the Co-Founder of DWP Academy Quables, He explains the feeling when they were contacted to feature in the visual album “Black is King” and Already video.

” We can not describe how we feel about this right now, when we were contacted, we just didn’t believe that we were going to do a project for Beyonce. We shot the video some time last year and it’s been a year, we even wondered if they will even use our video. We were told the video was for Beyonce and we had to learn the Choreography and we had to create and shoot as soon as possible”.

DWP Academy started the Academy to change the narrative people had about dance in Ghana. The narrative that dancers were only street performers needed to be changed. The Academy has now grown worldwide with over 200 dancers across the globe. In Ghana with the focus on the youth, the academy is represented in some of the Top Senior High Schools in Ghana. “Every member of our Academy we make sure they take Education very seriously whiles following their passion. We have students in Wesley Girls Senior High School, Achimota Senior High School and others. They are all professional dancers and they have good grades, we want to show people that you can be educated and also become a professional dancer.”

Talking about the way forward for DWP Academy, Co-Founder revealed exclusively to Kuulpeeps their upcoming project.

“We are working on an Album and a documentary. The Documentary is titled “Akwantuo”, this is the first time I’m speaking about it. In the Album, the songs were made by the dancers.” Quables said.

The date of the release is yet to be communicated.

“Akwantuo, is telling people our story from where we started to where we are now and the way forward. We are implementing a lot of cultural elements in this project. Azonto and Afrobeats as it is now, started from our cultural dances. Azonto Never died it just evolved, from the cultural dances to Afrodance.”
