Ghanaians have condemned the actions of the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency. Mavis Hawa Koomson, fired gunshots at a voters registration centre in Kasoa in the Central Region on Monday, July 20, 2020.
Mavis Hawa Koomson, who is also the Minister of Special Development Initiatives, admitted to firing gunshots at the registration centre.
She also defended her decision to carry a firearm to the centre as a means of protection.
She further explained that she went to the centre because she heard her opponent had conveyed people by bus, from other places to the venue to register.
“I realised the lives of my people were in danger. So I wanted to scare the people. I fired the warning shots. I didn’t direct it at anybody,” she told Adom News.
Her action has generated a lot of reactions from Ghanaians on social media, as they have condemned her for firing a gun at a registration centre.
Others also condemned her for defending and justifying her actions, as they expected her to have done better.
Some have called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to sack her if she is not ready to resign for her actions.
Others are asking more to be done after sacking her. They have indicated that she must be investigated.
