Michael Essien Announces Departure From Azerbaijani Club Subail FK

Former Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien has announced his departure from Azerbaijani club Sabail FK.

Essien joined Sabail FK on March 16, 2019, on a one-and-a-half-year contract after leaving Indonesian club Persib Bandung. His deal with Sabail FK also saw him coach their U-19 team.

The 37-year-old announced his depature from Sabail FK on Instagram.

“It’s been a great pleasure, Until we meet again Stay Strong and Safe,” he wrote.

He made 10 appearances for the Sabail FK.

Essien formerly played for Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan. He has come close to winning the African Footballer of the Year on several occasions.

He has also won a lot of individual awards including BBC Player of the Year, Chelsea Player of the Year, Ghana Player of the Year.
