N’Golo Kante on this day in 2016 became a Chelsea player.
He joined the West London club from Leicester City for a reported fee of £32 million after agreeing to a five-year deal.
Kante has been one of Chelsea’s most influential plays since moving to Stamford Bridge on July 16, 2020.
Three months after his move to London, he faced his former side, Leicester City for the first time, and was Man of the Match in a 3–0 victory.
Kante scored his first goal for Chelsea in a 4–0 home win against Manchester United on October, 23, 2016.
Kante went on to win the Premier League title in his first season with Chelsea. He became the first player since Eric Cantona in 1993 to win back‑to-back top-flight titles in England with two clubs.
He also won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year, and the Premier League Player of the Season, and was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the second consecutive season.
He won the Chelsea Players’ Player of the Year in 2016 and the Chelsea Player of the Year in 2017.
Kante was nominated for the Ballon d’Or in 2017 and won the World Cup with France in 2018.
He has won three major trophies with Chelsea including one Premier League title, one Europa League title and one FA Cup.
