Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha has been racially abused by a football fan on social media ahead of a Premier League game against Aston Villa on Sunday, July 13, 2020.

Zaha took to Twitter to share screenshots of the abusive messages that he received.

The abusive messages, which appear to have come from an Aston Villa fan, included an image of the American white supremacist hate group, the Ku Klux Klan.

The abuser addressed Zaha as a “black c*nt” and threatened to come to his house dressed as a ghost if he scores against Aston Villa.

Crystal Palace, however, have condemned the attacks on Zaha and indicated their support for the winger.

The club, in a statement issued on Twitter, stated: “This is an absolute disgrace and should not be happening. We stand with you, Wilf, and anyone else who has to suffer such horrific abuse.”

Aston Villa have also condemned the abusive messages and stated that they are working with the police in investigating the matter.

“We deplore the disgusting racist messages sent to Wilfried Zaha. We condemn all forms of racial discrimination and stand with Crystal Palace FC. We are working with the police in investigating this extremely serious matter and when the culprit is identified AVFC will issue a lifetime ban,” the club stated.

The incident comes as anti-racism protests have been across the world following the death of George Floyd.

The Premier League has also embraced the the Black Lives Matter movement as players take the knee before kick-off of every game.
