‘No Justification’: Gender Minister Responds To Counsellor Lutterodt’s Claims

Counsellor George Lutterodt

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has “strongly” condemned the statements made by Counsellor George Lutterodt about rape victims.

Mr Lutterodt, on Adom TV, stated that rape victims enjoy being raped. His statements made a lot of Ghanaians unhappy as he was criticised for that.

The first person who publicly criticised him for his statements was Ama K Abebrese. She slammed him for being irresponsible and also referred to him as a rape apologist.

Ama K Abebrese spoke to the Gender Minister about the issue and also called on every media organisations in Ghana to ban Mr Lutterodt.

Cynthia Morrison, the Gender Minister, has responded to the issue now, and she indicated that there is no justification for Mr Lutterodt to make such a “malignant” statement on television or private.

She, therefore, called on Ghana Media Commission to ban him from appearing on their shows, as well as, the Ghana Psychology Council to take the appropriate action against him.

“His beliefs on rape is disgusting and he is a threat and danger to the general public,” the statement read.

She, however, wants Mr Lutterodt to apologise for his “insensitive statement”.

“We therefore call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join hands and condemn the act. We also call on him to unreservedly retract his unsubstantiated and insensitive statement and apologise to the general public.”
