According to the band, “Happy” might not be the first free-spirited song from decently acclaimed Afro-fusion band FRA!, but it definitely is rewarding and feels very timely in a world that has become morbid and grim amidst a global pandemic. The 6-piece outfit from Teshie-Nungua aptly chose this tune in a bid to make some much-needed positivity go viral and encourage listeners while at the same time heralding the release of their third studio album later this year.
Their first wave of success found them when they landed a spot on a summer tour of Spain organized by Casa Africa in 2019. They toured alongside Kyekyeku and Ghanalogue Highlife (now Super Opong Stars), another blockbuster act from Ghana with appeal in Europe.
In November of the same year they continued with their international streak after being selected by a jury to perform at Visa for Music in Rabat, Morocco. Music critics who watched their performance tagged them as the best dance band at Visa for Music. Upon their return to Ghana they were handpicked once again to perform at ACCES, a music showcase organised yearly for music professionals.
In February of 2020 they trekked once more to Zanzibar to perform at Sauti Za Busara, arguably one of the largest music festivals in Africa with patrons from all over the world.
All throughout this period they have been busy compiling material for their studio album which is yet unnamed but due for release late this year. The single “Happy” is to give a slice of what listeners are to expect from the upcoming project. Aside being a moral booster for the times, it also describes the bands current outlook on life.
